Lora Eberlein, widow of the late Circuit Judge Michael G. Eberlein, died here at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday. She was 76.
Mrs. Eberlein, 125 South Franklin Street, had been in failing health for some time and was seriously ill for the past month.
The former Lora Rather was born at Calumetville, Wisconsin on February 16, 1884, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rather.
She came to Shawano in 1904 and taught at the elementary school in the town of Richmond and at the Lincoln School here for many years after her graduation from Oshkosh Normal.
On July 31, 1906 she was married at New Holstein to Michael G. Eberlein and lived in Shawano ever since. Judge Eberlein preceded her death on September 23, 1952.
She was a member of the St. James Lutheran Church of Shawano where funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday with Rev. W. A. Uttech officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetary.
Mrs. Eberlein was very active in church activities, being a member of the Ladies Aid Society, Valpo Guild and the Tabitha Society and served as president of the Ladies Aid.
She took a high interest in club activities and was a past-president of the Shawano Woman’s Club. and the Shawano Historical Society and was a member of the Shawano school board for several years.
She loved children, taking a high degree of interest in neighborhood youngsters in a way that made them feel they were almost part of the family.
After the death of Judge Eberlein she did considerable travel throughout the south and southwest, enjoying the numerous points of interest.
Survivors include a daughter, Margaret, Mrs. L. G. Volkman of Oshkosh; Michael G. of Shawano; William F. of Rochester, New York; Frederic C. of Shawano and Dr. Walter R. of Philadelphia. One son preceded her in death in 1918.
Also surviving are two eight grandchildren, two sisters Lottie, Mrs. Alfred Joos of Alma Center; Agnes, Mrs. Louis Erbe of New Holstein, and a brother, Maxwell F. Rather of Palm Beach, Florida.
The body will lie in state at the Born-Schweers Funeral Home from 2 p.m. Friday until 11 a.m. Saturday and then at the church until the time of the service.
