About

This site focuses on the descendants of my great-grandparents, Frederick John Eberlein (1834-1895) and Catherine Goerner (1841-1906). Both born in Germany, they immigrated to the United States, married, and had 15 children, of whom eleven lived to adulthood. John and Catherine arrived in Wisconsin in 1869 and settled in the Township of Herman, Shawano county. Accordingly, much of this Eberlein history has a strong Shawano focus on the US side — and a Züttlingen on the German side.

In November 2007, I went to Shawano, Wisconsin and spent a weekend talking to my Uncle Fritz (now deceased) about family history and scanning photographs. Then I came home to North Carolina, got caught up in work, and never figured out how best to share these photos with my family and other Eberlein researchers.

Fast forward to late September 2012, and I’m planning a family reunion for July 2013. I thought that it was time to dust off these photos and clippings and figure out how best to bring them to life.

Currently the site only has individual blog posts (photographs, transcriptions of obituaries and newspaper articles, descendant reports, ephemera), but I am trying to figure out how best to incorporate family trees, so as to make it easier for people to figure out who is who.
